You will need:
- Blender
- Kettle or coffee machine/percolator
- Fridge/Freezer
- Milk Frother (optional and sometimes unnecessary)
Ingredients:
- 1 cup coffee - I like to use Tesco Finest Java Sumatra
- 3 medium scoops vanilla ice cream
- 3/4 cup ice
- 3 tablespoons maple syrup, or more to taste, as you won't need to add sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- Whipped/ squirty cream (optional)
Directions:
- Brew your coffee. If you want to be fancy, you can cold press it, but I usually use the coffee machine, wait for it to cool a bit, and then chill in the fridge. I've heard things about how putting hot things in your fridge messes with the thermostat and can breed bacteria, which is why I let it cool a while first.
- Add all of the ingredients into your blender. I like to use ice that has already been crushed a bit first, but regular will work just as well, it'll just take a bit longer.
- Pulse the blender until you can no longer see or hear any ice clinking around. There should also be a nice frothy top, and if there isn't, keep going for a while more.
Variations:
-Add whipped cream and powdered chocolate. You may also want to not pulse the blender for as long, so there is less of a frothy 'head'.
-Change the maple syrup for any other syrups or flavourings. Depending on how strong/ sweet they are, you may need to play around with the quantity.
- For people who are lactose intolerant: if you can eat yoghurt (BUT AMBER, yoghurt has dairy I hear you say. Trust me, some lactose intolerant people can eat it, it has less lactose.) frozen yoghurt is a good substitute for ice cream, and coconut milk is an interesting taste combination with the coffee.
-If you're over 18, 21, or whatever the drinking age for your country is: add a splash of Baileys or equivalent coffee liqueur!
